Why Ourika Valley

An hour south of Marrakech, the Ourika valley is the city's loveliest green escape: a river valley climbing into the High Atlas, lined with Berber villages, terraced gardens and tables set right in the running water. For couples it makes an easy, refreshing private day out of the heat — a chauffeured drive, a leisurely riverside lunch with your feet near the stream, a gentle walk toward the Setti Fatma falls and, if you wish, a Berber kitchen afternoon in a mountain home. The Monday souk brings the whole valley vividly to life.

Setti Fatma waterfalls

A guided walk above the village to a series of cascades — the first an easy 30 minutes, with a cool pool to pause beside together.

A table in the river

Lunch at a table set in the shallows of the Ourika for tagine and grilled meats, feet in the water — one of the valley's simple romantic pleasures.

Berber villages & gardens

Terraced saffron and herb gardens, a private visit to a traditional Berber home and an argan or pottery co-op for tea and a memento.

04

Ourika Valleycommon questions.

Is the Ourika Valley worth visiting on a honeymoon?+

Yes — it is the easiest and greenest Atlas day from Marrakech: Berber villages, a waterfall walk and a riverside lunch, all within an hour of the city. Perfect for a relaxed, romantic day in the mountains without a long drive.

Can you cool off in the Ourika river?+

You can paddle in the shallows, and the riverside restaurants set their tables right in the water — a charming spot to linger. The waterfalls upstream have small pools, though the current can run strong after rain or snowmelt.
