Why Taghazout

Taghazout is the laid-back, stylish heart of Morocco's surf coast, 19 km north of Agadir around a crescent bay — and an effortlessly cool, romantic counterpoint to the desert and the cities. Once a hippie-trail village, it has grown into a destination of design-led surf lodges, yoga retreats and cliff-top cafés where the day ends with sundowners over the ocean. Couples come to slow down: a private surf lesson in the gentle bay, a hammam after the waves, a quiet argan tasting along the coast, and the finest Atlantic sunsets in the country from a terrace built for two. The famous Anchor Point break works best October–April; the surrounding argan forests supply much of the world's oil.

What to see

Highlights of Taghazout.

01

Anchor Point & the surf

A long, peeling right-hander over a rocky reef — one of Africa's best point breaks, thrilling to watch from the headland and best surfed October–April.

02

Private surf & yoga

Gentle, learner-friendly waves in the bay and a private instructor at your pace, with sunrise yoga and a hammam after — surfing as a relaxed couples' pursuit, not a boot camp.

03

Argan tastings on the coast

Women's cooperatives along the coast road press cold argan oil by hand; a private visit includes a demonstration and the chance to choose oils and amlou to take home.

04

Paradise Valley

A drive inland into the Anti-Atlas gorges to turquoise natural pools and waterfalls beneath a palm oasis — a romantic private picnic and the loveliest half-day from the coast.

FAQ

Taghazoutcommon questions.

Is Taghazout good for couples who are new to surfing?+

Yes — the sheltered bay produces gentle, consistent beginner waves, and a private instructor lets you learn at your own relaxed pace. Anchor Point is expert-only, but it is a thrill to watch from the headland with a coffee in hand.

When is the best time to visit Taghazout?+

October through April brings the most consistent surf and offshore mornings; May–September is flatter and lovely for swimming, snorkelling and long beach days. The light at sunrise and sunset over the bay is remarkable year-round.

How far is Taghazout from Agadir?+

Just 19 km, about 30 minutes by private car. It works as a day trip but is far more rewarding as a multi-night stay in a design surf lodge — the bay is at its most beautiful at dawn and dusk.

Is there good food in Taghazout?+

Excellent casual rooftop cafés and surf-lodge kitchens serving fresh fish and Moroccan food, perfect for an unhurried lunch. It is a quiet, stylish village rather than a nightlife town — exactly its charm.
