Why Dadès & Todra Gorges

Between Ouarzazate and the Sahara, the kasbah road threads two of Morocco's most spectacular canyons, and the drive itself becomes a highlight of a honeymoon. The Todra Gorge narrows to a sheer 300-metre slot; the Dadès twists through rose-coloured rock past the famous switchbacks. In between lie palm oases, earthen kasbahs and the damask roses of the Valley of Roses. We travel it privately and at leisure, with a chauffeur-guide and a luxury kasbah retreat for the night, so the great landscapes are savoured rather than rushed — a slow, cinematic prelude to the dunes.

What to see

Highlights of Dadès & Todra Gorges.

01

Todra Gorge at dawn

A vertiginous canyon where sheer 300m walls close to a narrow river passage — walked privately at first light, before another soul arrives.

02

The Dadès switchbacks

The famous hairpin road climbing out of the gorge, with a perfectly placed terrace for tea and the view — one of the great photographs of the trip.

03

Valley of Roses

The damask-rose fields of Kelaat M'Gouna, harvested each May for rosewater — a fragrant, romantic detour and a chance to take home a bottle of rose oil.

04

Skoura palmery & kasbahs

An oasis of date palms studded with earthen kasbahs, including the beautifully restored Amerhidil — and a luxury kasbah retreat for the night.

FAQ

Dadès & Todra Gorgescommon questions.

Are the Dadès and Todra gorges worth it on a honeymoon?+

Yes — they are among the most dramatic landscapes in Morocco and the most beautiful part of the road south. Walked privately at dawn and broken with a luxury kasbah retreat, the Todra's sheer walls and the Dadès switchbacks become a highlight rather than a transit.

Can you visit the gorges from Marrakech?+

They are best savoured as part of a 3-day-or-longer Sahara loop rather than a day trip — they sit roughly halfway between Marrakech and Merzouga, ideally with an overnight in a kasbah retreat along the way.
