Couple questions: Weddings and celebrations
What is a negaffa?
A negaffa is a Moroccan wedding dresser. She robes, jewels and presents the bride through the evening's changes of dress, usually a succession of kaftans and takchitas, and orchestrates the bride's entrance, often on the amaria. The best negaffas are booked far ahead, so engage one early through your planner if you want this tradition at your celebration.

The short answer
A negaffa is a Moroccan wedding dresser. She robes, jewels and presents the bride through the evening's changes of dress, usually a succession of kaftans and takchitas, and orchestrates the bride's entrance, often on the amaria. The best negaffas are booked far ahead, so engage one early through your planner if you want this tradition at your celebration.

In more detail
The role is part stylist, part stage manager. The negaffa brings the outfits and jewellery, dresses the bride for each appearance and makes sure each entrance is timed with the music. For couples new to Moroccan weddings, she is also the person who knows how the evening should flow.
Brides who are not Moroccan can work with a negaffa for one change of dress or several. Some wear a kaftan for the henna night or the diffa and their own dress for the ceremony. Your planner can introduce you and help you choose.

Book early. The finest riads, palaces and camps go first for prime spring and autumn dates, and the best photographers and negaffas are reserved at the same time.

Good to know
- Ask how many changes of dress the negaffa plans and how long each takes.
- Agree the timings with your planner and musicians.
- Leave space in the schedule for each change; they are not quick.
