Couple questions: Couples practical
Is it safe to walk in the medina at night?
The main lanes and squares are lively and busy in the evening, but the deep, quiet back lanes are easy to get lost in, and many are dimly lit. After dark, use arranged transport or ask your riad to send someone to walk you back, rather than wandering through unlit residential alleys. Violent crime against visitors is rare; getting lost is the usual problem.

The short answer

After dark, use arranged transport or ask your riad to send someone to walk you back, rather than wandering through unlit residential alleys. In more detail
Much of a medina is walking only, so a car can usually only bring you to the nearest gate or road. Ask your riad before you go out whether someone can meet you there on the way back.
Before you go out, save your riad's location on your phone and take its card. If you get lost, a shop or café is a better place to ask for help than accepting an offer from someone who approaches you.

Evenings in the main squares, such as Jemaa el-Fnaa in Marrakech, are part of the experience. Enjoy them, keep your valuables close, and plan your way back before you set out.

Good to know
- Ask your riad to meet you at the nearest gate after dinner.
- Save your riad's location on your phone.
- Keep phones and wallets in front pockets in crowds.
