Couple questions: Romantic places
Private desert camp or palace hotel on a honeymoon?
Both, ideally. A private desert camp gives you the night you will talk about: silence, firelight, dinner under the stars and sunrise over the dunes. A palace hotel gives you the settled comfort, spa and pool that make the rest of the trip easy. One or two camp nights inside a longer stay is the balance we suggest.

The short answer
Both, ideally. A private desert camp gives you the night you will talk about: silence, firelight, dinner under the stars and sunrise over the dunes. A palace hotel gives you the settled comfort, spa and pool that make the rest of the trip easy. One or two camp nights inside a longer stay is the balance we suggest.

In more detail
Our comparison treats them as complements rather than rivals. A luxury camp is a small cluster of tents or domed suites, usually near the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga, with real beds, rugs and an en-suite in each tent, a fire-lit lounge and dinner served by candlelight. Part of its appeal is that it is brief.
A palace hotel is the opposite gift: restored suites, gardens, a serious spa and hammam, a pool and a choice of restaurants, in Marrakech or Fes. It is the base you return to each evening, and it suits slow mornings and spa afternoons in a way a camp cannot.

That is why the usual honeymoon shape holds both. Several nights at a palace hotel or riad for the city, then the drive south through the Atlas and the kasbah valleys for one or two nights at the dunes, then back. Beyond two nights, our notes say most travellers prefer to return to the comfort of a hotel.
