Couple questions: Romantic places
Sunrise or sunset in the Sahara on a honeymoon?
Both, if you stay the night. The usual rhythm at Erg Chebbi is a camel ride out at sunset, dinner and stars at camp, then sunrise over the dunes before breakfast. Sunset brings the ride and the colour; sunrise brings the stillness, with the camp barely awake. One night covers both; a second night lets you slow down.

In more detail
Our Merzouga notes describe riding a camel caravan over the dunes at first or last light as the signature experience, with the low sun setting the ridges glowing. The dunes shift colour from dawn to dusk, and our comparison notes describe them turning from gold to rose at sunrise.
At night, far from city lights, Merzouga has some of Morocco's clearest skies, best on moonless nights away from the village. Most camps serve dinner, then drumming around the fire, and breakfast as the sun comes up over Erg Chebbi.

If you only have one evening, take the sunset ride and get up for sunrise from the dune behind camp. With two nights, you can add a sunrise walk, sandboarding or a visit to Khamlia for Gnaoua music. From October to April the timing is comfortable; in winter, pack warm layers for the early start.
