Couple questions: Romantic places
What is there to do in Merzouga as a couple?
Ride camels over Erg Chebbi at sunrise or sunset, sleep in a desert camp, and watch the stars. With a second day, try sandboarding, take a 4x4 drive around the dunes, hear Gnaoua music in Khamlia, or visit Rissani's market. After winter rain, flamingos sometimes gather at Dayet Srji. One night covers the essentials.

In more detail
Merzouga is a small village beside Erg Chebbi, a 22 km sea of dunes, and our notes list a dozen ways to spend time there. The core is the camel ride at first or last light and a night at a camp, which ranges from simple tents to luxury setups with private bathrooms.
Beyond that: the steep dune faces make a soft slope for sandboarding; a guided 4x4 reaches nomad encampments and old mining villages; and Khamlia, a few kilometres south, is home to families who keep Gnaoua music alive with drums and metal castanets. A respectful visit to a nomad family, with mint tea, is another quiet hour.

Further out, Rissani holds a lively souk on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, near the ruins of the medieval caravan city of Sijilmassa, and Erfoud, about an hour north, is the centre of the fossil trade. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons; summer days are extremely hot.
