Couple questions: Honeymoon planning
What is the best month for a Sahara honeymoon?
October, November, December and March are the standout months for a night in the Sahara. The whole window from October to April works well, with warm days and cold, clear nights. May and September are possible with early starts. June to August is the time to avoid: midday heat at Merzouga passes 42°C and some camps close.

The short answer
October, November, December and March are the standout months for a night in the Sahara. The whole window from October to April works well, with warm days and cold, clear nights. May and September are possible with early starts. June to August is the time to avoid: midday heat at Merzouga passes 42°C and some camps close.
In more detail
Our Sahara season guide sets out the year clearly. In October and November days are warm, about 25 to 30°C, the nights are cool and the light on the dunes is golden. December to February brings cold nights of about 2 to 8°C, the clearest skies for stars and the fewest visitors. March and April warm up quickly but stay comfortable at night.
May and September are shoulder months. May climbs towards 35°C by midday, and September is still hot in its first half before improving. Both work if you keep to sunrise and sunset on the dunes.

July and August are a different place. Midday at Merzouga regularly passes 42°C and can reach 48 to 50°C in July. Many higher-end camps close or cut back. If your honeymoon falls in summer, the Atlantic coast or the High Atlas are far better choices than the desert.

Good to know
- From October to February, pack a warm layer of your own even though camps supply blankets.
- For the darkest skies, aim for a new-moon night between December and February.
