Couple questions: Weddings and celebrations
Where can you have a wedding in Morocco?
Four settings stand out: a palatial riad or restored private palace in the Marrakech medina; a kasbah or one of the great gardens on the edge of Marrakech; a private desert camp in the Agafay or the Sahara dunes of Erg Chebbi; and a terrace above the Atlantic at Essaouira. Grand riads and camps are usually taken on an exclusive-use basis for the wedding days.

The short answer
Four settings stand out: a palatial riad or restored private palace in the Marrakech medina; a kasbah or one of the great gardens on the edge of Marrakech; a private desert camp in the Agafay or the Sahara dunes of Erg Chebbi; and a terrace above the Atlantic at Essaouira. Grand riads and camps are usually taken on an exclusive-use basis for the wedding days.

In more detail
The medina riad suits an intimate wedding. Courtyards of zellige and carved cedar, fountains, orange trees and lantern-lit roof terraces need very little decoration. For a larger party, several neighbouring riads or a palace-scale property hold a fuller guest list while keeping the privacy the medina does so well.
Kasbahs and gardens give space: long tables under olive and palm, lawns for a ceremony and room for music to carry. The Agafay offers stony hills and Atlas views close to Marrakech. The Sahara at Erg Chebbi asks guests to travel much further but rewards them with a celebration under a sky full of stars.

Essaouira brings a different mood: sea air, ramparts and the light of the coast. It is also the natural choice for a summer date, because the Atlantic stays much milder than Marrakech and the desert in July and August.

Good to know
- Choose the setting first; it decides the season, the guest travel and the planner.
- The Sahara is a long drive from Marrakech, so plan guest transfers carefully.
- Ask about exclusive use; it turns a venue into your own private world for a few days.
