Couple questions: Honeymoon planning
When is the best time for a coastal honeymoon in Morocco?
The Atlantic coast works for much of the year. Spring and autumn are the all-round sweet spot, with settled, warm weather and a sea that holds its warmth into autumn. Summer is the coast's moment, because it stays breezy when the interior passes 40°C. Winter is cooler and can be grey or wet, though often mild and quiet.

The short answer
The Atlantic coast works for much of the year. Spring and autumn are the all-round sweet spot, with settled, warm weather and a sea that holds its warmth into autumn. Summer is the coast's moment, because it stays breezy when the interior passes 40°C. Winter is cooler and can be grey or wet, though often mild and quiet.
In more detail
Our coastal guide explains why. The cold Canary Current and steady trade winds keep the whole seaboard cooler and fresher than the interior. So while Marrakech, Fes and the south can pass 40°C in high summer, Essaouira and Oualidia stay temperate.
Essaouira is a walled port about 2 hours 45 minutes and 190 km west of Marrakech. The same wind that keeps it cool makes it a kitesurf and windsurf town, so think of it as a breezy bolt-hole rather than a sun-lounger resort. The Gnaoua festival is held there each June.

Oualidia is quieter, set on a sheltered tidal lagoon between El Jadida and Safi. The lagoon gives calm swimming away from the open surf, and the town is known across Morocco for its oysters. A spring or autumn honeymoon can pair the coast with Marrakech. A summer one can use the coast as the cool half of the trip.

Good to know
- Pack a light layer even in summer. The Atlantic evenings are noticeably cooler and windier than the interior.
