Couple questions: Romantic places
Is Oualidia worth it for couples?
For couples who love food and calm, yes. Oualidia is a quiet lagoon town on the Atlantic, famous for oysters farmed there since the 1950s, with flamingos on the flats at low tide and a few boutique retreats by the water. It is about 2 hours south of Casablanca and 2 hours 30 north of Essaouira.

The short answer
For couples who love food and calm, yes. Oualidia is a quiet lagoon town on the Atlantic, famous for oysters farmed there since the 1950s, with flamingos on the flats at low tide and a few boutique retreats by the water. It is about 2 hours south of Casablanca and 2 hours 30 north of Essaouira.

In more detail
The point of Oualidia is a long lunch: oysters opened to order at a table at the water's edge, then the day's catch grilled over charcoal. Our destination notes say the oysters are good year-round, because the lagoon's farming is continuous rather than seasonal.
Mornings are for the birds and the water. The sheltered, shallow lagoon suits a slow paddle or a stand-up board at golden hour, while the open Atlantic breaks beyond the sandbar.

It works as a night on the coastal road between Casablanca and Essaouira, or as a long lunch stop. Places to stay are few and small, and July and August are busy with Moroccan families, so book ahead for summer. It pairs well with Essaouira on a coastal honeymoon: our coastal honeymoon tour links the two with an oyster lunch at the lagoon. If you are flying into Casablanca, Oualidia makes a calm first or last night on the way down the coast.
