Couple questions: Romantic places
Is Ifrane worth it for couples?
As a cool day or a night between Fes and the south, yes. Ifrane is a 1930s hill town in the Middle Atlas, with red-roofed chalets, cedar forests, Barbary macaques and winter snow. It sits roughly an hour by road from Fes and Meknes. It is a pleasant contrast rather than a reason to plan a honeymoon around.

The short answer
As a cool day or a night between Fes and the south, yes. Ifrane is a 1930s hill town in the Middle Atlas, with red-roofed chalets, cedar forests, Barbary macaques and winter snow. It sits roughly an hour by road from Fes and Meknes. It is a pleasant contrast rather than a reason to plan a honeymoon around.

In more detail
Our notes call it little Switzerland: steep red roofs and chalets built for snowy winters, unusual anywhere in Morocco. At about 1,600 metres, it regularly sees snow from December to February, and in summer its cool air is a relief when much of the country is hot.
For couples, the appeal is the forest. The cedar woods around Azrou and inside Ifrane National Park are home to wild Barbary macaques, often seen near the road. Lake Dayet Aoua is a quiet spot for birdwatching and a picnic, and the Val d'Ifrane has shaded riverside walks close to the centre.

Ifrane fits a route that drives south from Fes through the Middle Atlas towards the desert, as a stop for lunch and a walk. Spring and autumn suit forest walks, summer is popular for the cool, and winter brings snow and a cosy alpine feel.

Good to know
- Please do not feed the macaques; human food harms their health.
