Couple questions: Food and romance
Is a couples cooking class in Morocco worth it?
For most couples, yes. A private lesson with a riad's own chef usually starts with a walk through the souk to buy spices and produce. Then the two of you cook a tagine and other dishes side by side, and you eat what you made at your own table, often on the terrace.

The short answer
For most couples, yes. A private lesson with a riad's own chef usually starts with a walk through the souk to buy spices and produce. Then the two of you cook a tagine and other dishes side by side, and you eat what you made at your own table, often on the terrace.

In more detail
Our cooking-class guide recommends the most private options for a luxury trip. That means a one-to-one or couples' lesson with a riad chef, a class in a palace kitchen, or a dada teaching family recipes in her home.
A full class usually takes three to four hours for the cooking. A souk visit beforehand adds one to two hours. You leave with recipes, and the better classes teach technique as well as the steps.

It is also one of the easier ways to have a long, natural conversation with a Moroccan host. No experience is needed. Classes are designed for complete beginners.
Fes is a strong choice for food lovers. Our guide notes that many Moroccans consider the Fassi kitchen the most refined in the country, and classes there tend to be smaller and more personal.

Good to know
- Book early in March to May and October to November, when good classes fill two to four weeks ahead.
- Wear clothes you do not mind marking. Turmeric stains.
- Arrive hungry. The meal at the end is a full one.
