Couple questions: Romantic places
Is Fes romantic for a honeymoon?
For couples who love history and craft, yes. Fes is the oldest and most intimate of the imperial cities, and the place to stay in a grand dar, a restored merchant's house of carved cedar and zellige with dinner on the roof. It is about seven hours from Marrakech by car, so it suits honeymoons of ten nights or more.

The short answer

In more detail
Fes el-Bali, the old medina, is a vast labyrinth, and a private guide makes it readable: the main street down from Bab Boujloud to the Karaouine, the tanneries seen from a reserved terrace in the morning light, and two 14th-century madrasas of carved cedar and stucco, visited at quiet hours.
The mood is more contemplative than Marrakech, with less poolside lounging and more slow discovery. Our destination notes call it the most beautiful place in Morocco to disappear into a grand dar for a few days.

The best months are April and May, and September and October. Dress respectfully, with shoulders and knees covered near religious sites. From Fes, Chefchaouen in the Rif is about four hours by car, and Volubilis and Meknes make an easy day out. Two or three nights is the usual stay. You can fly into Fes directly, which makes it easy to start or end a honeymoon there.
