Couple questions: Food and romance
Can couples share a hammam in Morocco?
Yes, but only in a private spa. Riads and hotel spas widely offer a couples' hammam, the two of you in a private room, often followed by side-by-side massages. Traditional public hammams are strictly separated by gender, so couples cannot share those. Book the private version ahead.

The short answer
Yes, but only in a private spa. Riads and hotel spas widely offer a couples' hammam, the two of you in a private room, often followed by side-by-side massages. Traditional public hammams are strictly separated by gender, so couples cannot share those. Book the private version ahead.

In more detail
The public neighbourhood hammam is where most Moroccans go. It is communal and inexpensive, and men and women bathe in separate areas or at separate times. Our hammam guide says many travellers try one for the experience and book a private spa hammam for comfort.
In a spa, everything is provided: robes, towels, slippers and products. You keep underwear or swimwear on, and the therapist guides you through. Candles and tea are part of the ritual in many couples' suites.

Marrakech has the most choice, in palace hotels and small riads alike. Many spas also take non-residents by appointment, so you do not have to stay there to book one.
Timing helps. A hammam is most welcome after exertion, such as dusty desert days or long medina walks, or as a slow finish before you fly home.

Good to know
- Book a couples' hammam in advance, ideally when you book the riad.
- Plan it after a long day, such as your return from the desert.
- Rest and drink water afterwards rather than rushing straight out.
