Couple questions: Couples practical
What do you wear in a hammam in Morocco?
Most people keep underwear or swimwear on. In a luxury spa hammam in a riad or hotel, you simply turn up: robes, towels, slippers and products are provided. In a traditional public hammam, you bring your own flip-flops, towel, change of underwear, black soap and kessa glove, and men and women bathe separately.

The short answer
Most people keep underwear or swimwear on. In a luxury spa hammam in a riad or hotel, you simply turn up: robes, towels, slippers and products are provided. In a traditional public hammam, you bring your own flip-flops, towel, change of underwear, black soap and kessa glove, and men and women bathe separately.
In more detail
A hammam ritual runs roughly forty-five minutes to an hour and a half. You settle into a warm steam room, are doused with warm water, and black olive-oil soap is worked into your skin before a therapist scrubs you firmly with the kessa glove. A rhassoul clay or argan treatment and a massage may follow.
Couples can share a hammam only in a private riad or hotel spa. Public hammams are strictly separated by gender, by area or by time, so couples cannot share those. If sharing the ritual matters to you, book a private spa hammam in advance.

Leave valuables at your riad, and allow time afterwards to rest and drink water rather than rushing back out. The scrub is firm; if you prefer something gentler, say so at the start.

Good to know
- Bring swimwear if you would rather not wear underwear.
- Book a couple's hammam ahead in a riad or hotel spa.
- Plan a quiet hour after the ritual.
