Couple questions: Couples practical
What should men wear in Morocco?
Lightweight trousers or chinos work everywhere, with a plain T-shirt or collared shirt. Shorts are increasingly common in tourist areas but are better avoided in conservative medina quarters, villages and near religious sites. Sleeveless vests draw more attention in traditional neighbourhoods than a standard T-shirt. For dinner, smart trousers and a shirt suit a riad or a rooftop.

The short answer
Lightweight trousers or chinos work everywhere, with a plain T-shirt or collared shirt. Shorts are increasingly common in tourist areas but are better avoided in conservative medina quarters, villages and near religious sites. Sleeveless vests draw more attention in traditional neighbourhoods than a standard T-shirt. For dinner, smart trousers and a shirt suit a riad or a rooftop.

In more detail
Men face lighter scrutiny than women on dress, but covering shoulders and knees is still appreciated in medinas, villages and near mosques. Lightweight trousers are cooler in the sun than people expect and avoid any question of what is appropriate.
For the Sahara, loose lightweight trousers are more comfortable than shorts; sand, sun and camel saddles all favour coverage. For walking in the Atlas, ordinary hiking trousers are the practical choice in any weather.

Evenings are cool in most places and genuinely cold in the desert and mountains. One warm jacket or jumper, plus a smarter shirt for dinners, covers most honeymoon itineraries.

Good to know
- Swap vests for T-shirts in the medina.
- Pack trousers for the desert, not shorts.
- Bring one smart outfit for a special dinner.
- Keep a light long-sleeved shirt for sun and for visits near religious sites.
- Pack comfortable walking shoes; medina lanes are cobbled and uneven.
