Couple questions: Weddings and celebrations
What should wedding guests wear in Morocco?
Modest, elegant clothing for time in the medina and the town, and whatever the couple asks for at the celebration itself. Many couples invite guests to wear kaftans and djellabas, which guests almost always enjoy. Brief guests to cover shoulders and knees in the medina and near religious sites, and to bring a warm layer for the evening.

The short answer
Modest, elegant clothing for time in the medina and the town, and whatever the couple asks for at the celebration itself. Many couples invite guests to wear kaftans and djellabas, which guests almost always enjoy. Brief guests to cover shoulders and knees in the medina and near religious sites, and to bring a warm layer for the evening.

In more detail
There is no legal dress code for visitors, but covering shoulders and knees in medinas, markets and villages is appreciated, for men and women. Inside a riad taken for the wedding, the norms of the street do not apply in the same way, so the couple sets the dress code.
Kaftans and djellabas are a lovely way to bring guests into the celebration. They are comfortable in the heat and look beautiful in photographs.

Practical shoes matter. The medina's lanes are walking only and often cobbled, so heels are impractical for getting there. Guests can change at the venue. Evenings are cooler than days almost everywhere, and much colder in the desert.

Good to know
- Put a short dress note in the invitation or welcome pack.
- Suggest flat shoes for the walk and a change at the venue.
- Remind guests to bring a wrap or jacket for the night.
