Couple questions: Couples practical
Can you wear a bikini in Morocco?
Yes, at the beach, at a hotel pool and at your riad's pool. On the Atlantic coast at Agadir, Essaouira and Taghazout, swimwear on the beach is perfectly normal. Riad pools are private, enclosed spaces where you dress as you would at any hotel. Cover up as soon as you leave the beach or the riad and walk into town.

The short answer
Yes, at the beach, at a hotel pool and at your riad's pool. On the Atlantic coast at Agadir, Essaouira and Taghazout, swimwear on the beach is perfectly normal. Riad pools are private, enclosed spaces where you dress as you would at any hotel. Cover up as soon as you leave the beach or the riad and walk into town.
In more detail
The coast is much more relaxed than the medinas. Shorts and sleeveless tops on the beachfront promenade are normal too. The expectation changes once you are in town: the market, the pharmacy, the café and the main streets call for covered shoulders and knees.
Inside a riad, the modesty norms of the street do not apply in the same way. The courtyard and pool are hidden from the lane, and guests dress as they would in any hotel. A cover-up or kaftan is useful for walking between the pool and your room or the terrace.

In the medinas and villages, swimwear outside the pool is out of place. Pack a light cover-up and you can move between pool and street without a second thought.

Good to know
- Pack a kaftan or cover-up for walking to and from the pool.
- Cover up before you leave the beach for town.
- Ask your riad whether the pool is shared with other guests.
