Couple questions: Romantic places
Is Chefchaouen worth it for couples?
Yes, if you stay the night. Chefchaouen is a calm blue-washed town in the Rif mountains, at its best at sunrise and dusk, when the day visitors have gone. Two nights is ideal. It is about 2 hours from Tangier and 3 hours 30 minutes from Fes by car, with no train or airport, so it fits a northern route rather than a Marrakech trip.

The short answer
Yes, if you stay the night. Chefchaouen is a calm blue-washed town in the Rif mountains, at its best at sunrise and dusk, when the day visitors have gone. Two nights is ideal. It is about 2 hours from Tangier and 3 hours 30 minutes from Fes by car, with no train or airport, so it fits a northern route rather than a Marrakech trip.

In more detail
The town is small and gentle, its lanes painted every shade of blue. Our destination notes suggest walking the medina at golden hour, sleeping in a boutique guesthouse, and catching sunrise from the Spanish Mosque on the hill before driving on.
A day trip lands you there with the tour buses at midday and leaves before dusk, missing the two quietest and most beautiful hours. That is why we plan it as an overnight.

Two practical notes for couples: at 564 m, evenings are cool, so pack a light layer for rooftop dinners; and alcohol is not sold inside the medina, though a few hotels and restaurants outside the walls serve wine with dinner. April to June and September to October are the best months. From Tangier, the drive into the Rif is the comfortable way in, since there is no train or airport.
