Couple questions: Weddings and celebrations
Can you have a wedding in the Agafay desert?
Yes. The Agafay, a stony desert of bare hills and Atlas views around 45 minutes by road from Marrakech, is the closest desert setting for a symbolic wedding or celebration. A private camp gives you the desert mood without the long drive to the Sahara, so guests can stay in Marrakech and come out for the evening.

The short answer

In more detail
The Agafay is not sand dunes. It is a rocky, lunar landscape with the High Atlas on the horizon, which looks remarkable at sunset and in photographs. Camps there can host a dinner, music and a ceremony under the sky, and many couples use it for the main evening while the rest of the wedding happens in the city.
Its nearness is the big advantage. Guests can arrive in Marrakech, stay in riads in the medina and take a short transfer out for the celebration, without the long journey that a Sahara wedding needs. It also makes a sunset in the Agafay an easy excursion for guests in the days around the wedding.

Weather follows the inland pattern. Spring and autumn are ideal. High summer is very hot, and winter evenings turn cold, so plan heaters, fire pits and blankets for any celebration after dark.

Good to know
- Hold the ceremony before sunset and dinner after; the light is at its best then.
- Arrange return transfers for guests in advance.
- Bring a wrap for each guest; desert evenings cool quickly.
