Couple questions: Food and romance
Can you eat gluten-free or with allergies on a Morocco honeymoon?
Yes, with notice. We record every dietary need at enquiry, including coeliac disease, severe allergies and religious rules, and brief each riad kitchen and desert camp in writing before you arrive. On a private trip the menus can be adapted, because nothing depends on a fixed group menu.

The short answer
Yes, with notice. We record every dietary need at enquiry, including coeliac disease, severe allergies and religious rules, and brief each riad kitchen and desert camp in writing before you arrive. On a private trip the menus can be adapted, because nothing depends on a fixed group menu.

In more detail
Our FAQ asks for every requirement early so that the arrangements are in place, rather than attempted on the night. That includes the camp in the desert, which is far from any shop.
Moroccan cooking leans on vegetables, pulses, salads and fruit, which makes it easier to tailor than many cuisines. Bread, couscous, pastilla pastry and msemen all contain wheat, so a coeliac traveller needs those swapped out.

Nut allergies need a clear word too. Almonds appear in many dishes and pastries, from lamb with prunes and almonds to gazelle horns and amlou.
Desert camps need the most notice. Dinner there is a multi-course meal cooked in a remote camp kitchen, so the camp has to know before you leave Marrakech. We brief it in advance, along with every riad on your route.

Good to know
- List allergies in writing at enquiry, not only on the day.
- Carry a translated allergy card in French and Arabic as a back-up.
- Repeat your needs to a cooking class the day before.
