Couple questions: Couples practical
Can you get Moroccan dirhams before you travel?
Not easily. The Moroccan dirham is a closed currency, so you generally cannot obtain it before you arrive. Withdraw dirhams from an ATM once you land, or ask your driver or riad to arrange an exchange. Then keep a modest float of small notes for the souks, tips and the desert, where cards are not accepted.

The short answer

In more detail
Arriving without dirhams is normal and not a problem. You can withdraw from an ATM once you land, and on a privately arranged trip your driver or riad can arrange an exchange so you are never caught short.
Bring a card that works abroad and, as a backup, some euros or another major currency in cash to exchange if needed. Small foreign notes are sometimes accepted for tips, but they are harder for staff to change than dirhams.

Because the dirham is a closed currency, it makes sense to withdraw only what you need and to spend most of it before you fly home.

Good to know
- Plan to withdraw cash at the airport on arrival.
- Bring a backup card in case one is declined.
- Use up your dirhams before you fly home.
- Carry a little euro or other major currency as a backup.
- Keep small notes for tips from the first day.
