Couple questions: Weddings and celebrations
Can you get married in a riad in Marrakech?
You can hold a symbolic wedding or celebration in a riad, and it is one of the most atmospheric settings in Morocco. A palatial riad or restored palace in the Marrakech medina, taken on an exclusive-use basis, becomes your own private world for the days around the wedding. The legal marriage is usually done at home first.

The short answer
You can hold a symbolic wedding or celebration in a riad, and it is one of the most atmospheric settings in Morocco. A palatial riad or restored palace in the Marrakech medina, taken on an exclusive-use basis, becomes your own private world for the days around the wedding. The legal marriage is usually done at home first.

In more detail
A riad is a traditional house built around a private courtyard, and the grand ones have zellige, carved cedar, fountains, orange trees and roof terraces lit with lanterns. That courtyard becomes the ceremony space, the dining room for the diffa feast and the dance floor for the musicians.
Size is the main limit. A single riad suits an intimate wedding. For a larger guest list, planners take several neighbouring riads or a palace-scale property, which keeps the sense of privacy without crowding anyone. Many boutique riads can be booked exclusively with their own chef and staff.

Remember the lanes. Much of the medina is walking only, so guests arrive on foot from the nearest road, and suppliers carry everything in. Clear guidance for guests and a planner who knows the riad are what make it work smoothly.

Good to know
- Ask how many guests the courtyard seats for dinner, not just for a standing drink.
- Brief guests that the medina lanes are walking only.
- Book well ahead; the finest riads are reserved early for spring and autumn.
