Couple questions: Couples practical
Do you tip in Morocco?
Yes. Tipping is customary in Morocco and warmly received: guides, drivers, riad staff, porters, desert camp teams and camel handlers all appreciate it. Tip in cash, ideally in dirhams. In restaurants, service is usually included on the bill, so rounding up or leaving a little extra for good service is enough. Your concierge or riad can advise on the right gesture.

The short answer

In more detail
On a private trip, the main tips go to your guide and your chauffeur, at the end of a day with a day guide or at the end of the journey with a multi-day chauffeur-guide. Your concierge can suggest the right gesture for each.
In riads and hotels, small amounts go a long way: something for porters, something for housekeeping left on the pillow, and a thank-you at the end of the stay for the riad manager who arranged your dinners and transfers. In desert camps, guests usually pool a tip at the end of the night and hand it to the camp manager to share.

Cash in dirhams is best. Small US dollar or euro notes are accepted but harder for staff to change, and coins from outside the eurozone cannot be exchanged.

Good to know
- Keep small dirham notes aside for tips.
- Hand camp tips to the manager to share among the team.
- Ask your riad if you are unsure what is appropriate.
