Couple questions: Romantic places
Is Imlil good for a romantic stay?
Yes, for couples who like walking. Imlil is a Berber village at about 1,740 metres beneath Mount Toubkal, with walnut groves, mule paths and stone villages. You walk from the door, eat by the fire and wake to the peaks. It is about 1.5 to 2 hours from Marrakech. Bring warm layers: evenings are cool in every season.

In more detail
Our notes describe Imlil as the gateway to Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak, but you do not need to climb it. Gentle day walks follow the Mizane river through terraced fields and irrigation channels, and a short uphill walk reaches Aroumd, the largest village in the valley, with its stone houses and threshing floors.
Above the village, a restored kasbah run as a community-focused lodge welcomes non-guests for mint tea on its terraces. Many homes and guesthouses serve a slow tagine lunch with bread from a wood oven, which is one of the nicest things to do between walks.

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable for walking. Summer is busiest with Toubkal climbers, and winter brings snow, snowshoeing and harder weather, which can affect the road up. The lodge guide puts Imlil among the valleys with the best walking access, for couples who want mountains rather than a spa.
