Couple questions: Romantic places
Are the Atlas Mountains good for a romantic break?
Yes. Within about an hour of Marrakech, the High Atlas trades the city heat for cool mountain air, Berber villages and orchards, and a handful of mountain lodges with Atlas-facing terraces, hammams and fireside dinners. Imlil, at 1,740 m, is the best-known base. A night or two suits couples who want quiet more than sightseeing.

The short answer

In more detail
Imlil is about 60 km from Marrakech, an hour by car through Asni. Around it lie walnut, cherry and apple orchards and villages you can walk to: an easy two-hour stroll to Aroumd, or up the valley to the white shrine of Sidi Chamharouch.
The lodges are the reason to stay. Our guides describe converted kasbahs and country houses with log fires, spa terraces, farm-to-table dining and walks that start at the door. Lower, greener valleys nearby have restful lodges for a two-night escape without any trekking.

Couples who want a challenge can climb Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak at 4,167 m, over two days with mule support. A licensed guide has been mandatory since 2018, and we arrange it. Pack warm layers in any season: mountain nights are cold. The best months are April to June and September to November, with snow on the peaks in winter. Spend a night or two in Marrakech first if you plan to walk high, to get used to the altitude.
