Couple questions: Romantic places
Is the Ourika valley good for couples?
Yes, as an easy escape from Marrakech. The Ourika valley is about 1 hour 15 minutes south, with a river, Berber villages, terraced gardens and a waterfall walk at Setti Fatma. A riverside tagine lunch is the classic day. Quieter retreats sit higher up the valley if you would rather stay the night than go back.

The short answer
Yes, as an easy escape from Marrakech. The Ourika valley is about 1 hour 15 minutes south, with a river, Berber villages, terraced gardens and a waterfall walk at Setti Fatma. A riverside tagine lunch is the classic day. Quieter retreats sit higher up the valley if you would rather stay the night than go back.

In more detail
Our notes describe a green, river-cut corridor running about 60 km from Marrakech to Setti Fatma at its head. The lower end is popular with day-trippers. Simple cafes set tables beside or over the water, and eating lunch with your feet near the cool current is a local tradition on a warm day.
From Setti Fatma, a rocky trail climbs past a series of cascades. The first waterfall is a short, steep scramble that most reasonably fit visitors can manage in good shoes; the higher falls are harder, and many people hire a local guide. Along the valley road, women's co-operatives show how argan oil is pressed by hand.

Spring brings full rivers and blossom, autumn mild clear days, and summer a cool break from the city, though storms can cause flash floods. For an overnight, the Atlas lodge guide lists the higher Ourika among the valleys with quieter retreats, close enough to pair with a few Marrakech nights.
