Couple questions: Romantic places
Which Atlas valley should we stay in on our honeymoon?
Ourika or Ouirgane for an easy, cool escape close to Marrakech. Asni and Imlil for the high peaks and the best walking beneath Toubkal. The Ait Bougmez, the Happy Valley, for real remoteness at the end of a longer drive. Most lodges are small, with fires, a hammam and home cooking; check the exact facilities before booking.

The short answer
Ourika or Ouirgane for an easy, cool escape close to Marrakech. Asni and Imlil for the high peaks and the best walking beneath Toubkal. The Ait Bougmez, the Happy Valley, for real remoteness at the end of a longer drive. Most lodges are small, with fires, a hammam and home cooking; check the exact facilities before booking.

In more detail
Our Atlas lodge guide groups the retreats by valley. The Ourika is the closest, green and river-cut, about 1 hour 15 minutes south of Marrakech, busier at its lower end with quieter lodges higher up. Ouirgane, towards Toubkal, is gentler olive and juniper country around a reservoir, mountain calm without serious altitude.
Higher and more dramatic are the Asni and Imlil valleys, climbing towards Jbel Toubkal at 4,167 metres, with walnut groves, stone villages and walks that start at the door. Deeper in the range, the Ait Bougmez is a broad, fertile high valley with a slow farming rhythm, reached by a longer drive.

Whichever you choose, the guide stresses that facilities vary widely: a small eco-retreat may have a simple hammam and a masseuse on call, a larger country house a full spa. Meals are usually taken at the lodge on half or full board. Evenings are cool all year, and winter snow can affect the higher roads.
