Couple questions: Romantic places
Where should we stay in Marrakech on our honeymoon?
For the classic honeymoon, a small riad in a quieter medina quarter such as Mouassine or Bab Doukkala, about ten minutes' walk from the main sights. For pools, gardens and a spa, a palace hotel in the Hivernage or the Palmeraie, with the medina a short drive away. Many couples do a few nights of each.

The short answer
For the classic honeymoon, a small riad in a quieter medina quarter such as Mouassine or Bab Doukkala, about ten minutes' walk from the main sights. For pools, gardens and a spa, a palace hotel in the Hivernage or the Palmeraie, with the medina a short drive away. Many couples do a few nights of each.

In more detail
The medina is where most couples want to wake. A riad there puts the souks, palaces and rooftop dinners on your doorstep. Our accommodation notes point out that riads right by Jemaa el-Fna and the main souk entrances are the most convenient but can be noisy in the evenings, while Mouassine and Bab Doukkala are calmer and still close to everything.
Outside the walls, the Hivernage and the Palmeraie hold the landmark luxury hotels, with large spas, gardens, pools and several restaurants on a scale no riad can match. They suit couples who want full resort service and a proper pool, and who are happy to drive into the medina rather than step out into it.

The pattern we see most is to combine the two: two or three riad nights for the medina, then a few slower days at a palace hotel. For something quieter again, the Atlas valleys are an hour or so away, and the Agafay desert is close enough for a night under the stars.

Good to know
- For a riad, look for eight rooms or fewer and a suite with its own terrace.
- In summer, a pool matters; our notes call it near-essential for a July or August stay.
