Couple questions: Weddings and celebrations
Can you have a summer wedding in Morocco?
Yes, but choose the coast. From June to August, Marrakech, kasbah courtyards and the desert can be punishingly hot, which is hard on guests in formal dress and on an outdoor feast. Essaouira and the Atlantic stay much milder, with sea air taking the edge off the heat, which makes a coastal celebration the natural summer choice.

The short answer
Yes, but choose the coast. From June to August, Marrakech, kasbah courtyards and the desert can be punishingly hot, which is hard on guests in formal dress and on an outdoor feast. Essaouira and the Atlantic stay much milder, with sea air taking the edge off the heat, which makes a coastal celebration the natural summer choice.

In more detail
Essaouira gives a summer wedding sea air, ramparts and a relaxed coastal feel. Terraces above the ocean suit a ceremony and a long dinner, and the town is easy for guests to enjoy in the days around the wedding.
If you are set on Marrakech in summer, keep the outdoor parts for after sunset and the daytime parts indoors or in shade. Riads are built around shaded courtyards for a reason, and a late-evening celebration avoids the worst of the heat. It still asks a lot of guests, so think hard before committing.

Late June also brings the Gnaoua World Music Festival to Essaouira. Check your date against the festival before you book.

Good to know
- Hold any inland summer celebration after dark.
- Plan for the coast's wind with a sheltered space.
- Check festival dates before you fix an Essaouira wedding in late June.
- Give guests sun hats and water if any part of the day is outdoors.
